If the idea of being more
actively involved in creating and enhancing access for boaters and
supporting the San Francisco Bay Area Water Trail appeals to you
— here are some things you can do…
Consider Joining the Bay Access Board
The Bay Access Board is an all volunteer, hard working Board consisting
of non-motorized boaters, wind and kite surfers who also have a
variety of other skills (i.e. their day jobs).
We are first and foremost water people who advocate for access to
the Bay and for appropriate development of the Water Trail. Currently
we are lawyers, recreation specialists, environmental planners, community
activists, boating instructors, trail development experts and people
that know how to pursue money.
- We are very interested in creating liaisons with businesses that
can use the Water Trail to expand and create added value for their
customers while supporting the Water Trail.
- We are very interested in engaging people with strong science-based
environmental backgrounds in the Water Trail project.
- Outreach to the end-users of the Trail and educating the boating
public about the Water Trail is a big part of what we do. If
you enjoy the art of schmooze and know something about marketing
and/or outdoor education you might enjoy using your skills to help
enhance boaters’ experiences on the Bay.
- We are very interested in people with creative ideas about pursuing
money who also want to turn their ideas into action.
Our board members serve for three year terms and we meet quarterly
although sometimes more when the need arises. Board members
all contribute financially to the organization but there is no requirement
as to how much. Likewise, our board members all generously
contribute their expertise and time with the understanding that it
is not always possible to do as much as one wants and that others
will always be willing to help. Click
here if you want to talk
about it.

learn about hazardous conditions, find interesting areas of the
Bay to explore, identify Bay wildlife and learn about their habits,
locate access sites particularly suited to specific boater interests. Donate
here.
Become a Steward
Stewardship is a key aspect of all water trails and comes in many
forms. Projects range from beach clean-ups to water quality
monitoring to habitat restoration to creating a healthy public
presence that discourages social or physical abuse of a site. Bay
Access works with its partners to promote stewardship of the Bay.
